The 39-year-old son of Chairman Johann Rupert will oversee strategic product and communications matters across Richemont’s Maisons, as the luxury group formalises its next generation of leadership.
Swiss luxury roup Richemont has appointed Anton Rupert, son of chairman Johann Rupert, as Non-Executive Co-Deputy Chairman with immediate effect, marking what the company described as an important step in its long-term succession planning.
The appointment, announced by Richemont on 9 September, follows a meeting of the Group’s board of directors a day earlier.
Rupert, 39, will serve alongside former Audi Chief Executive Bram Schot, who was appointed Deputy Chairman in 2024 and will now continue as Non-Executive Co-Deputy Chairman. The two executives will have complementary remits.
Rupert will oversee matters relating to the Maisons’ Strategic Product and Communications Committee, an area Richemont described as central to the Group’s creative and commercial direction. Schot will assume responsibility for board and committee-related governance, including the coordination of board committees and Richemont’s corporate governance framework.
“This appointment is an important step in the Board’s long-term succession planning,” Johann Rupert, 76, said in announcing the move, pointing to close family involvement, governance and a continued focus on creativity and craftsmanship as central to the Group’s continuity.
Anton Rupert has served as a Non-Executive Director on Richemont’s board since 2017 and has held roles spanning the Group’s strategic security committee and former luxury watch resale platform Watchfinder. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director of South African investment group Remgro.
The appointment strengthens the Rupert family’s representation at the top of the group without signalling an executive handover. Richemont, whose portfolio includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Montblanc and several specialist watchmakers, remains led operationally by Group Chief Executive Nicolas Bos.
Bos took the top executive role in 2024, having previously led Van Cleef & Arpels, while Johann Rupert remains Chairman.
The latest appointment instead formalises Anton Rupert’s position within Richemont’s long-term leadership structure, giving the next generation of the founding family greater oversight of an area directly tied to the creative and commercial development of its Maisons.
